Intel plans to introduce a higher-performing Intel Pentium M processor codenamed Dothan in the second quarter this year. Dothan, said Mr Anand Chandrasekher, Intel's vice-president and general manager of the company's Mobile Platforms Group, will come with IEEE 802.11b/g wireless technology and a lower power consumption enabling longer battery life. The aim this year is also for Intel's wireless-ready notebooks to get into the hands of consumers.
In the second half of this year, Intel plans to update all the components that go into making up its Centrino mobile technology with the Sonoma platform. Sonoma's components include Dothan with a faster 533MhZ front side bus, a new Wi-Fi component that supports the 802.11a/b/g wireless networking standards, as well as a new chipset called Alviso
